Having recently moved from a Nikon DSLR system based on a D6 and D850 to a Mirrorless system with Z8/9 bodies, I was looking forward to comparing the capabilities and performance of this Z version with my previous F Mount version. What many others claim is fully supported by my testing. The Z version is a considerable improvement over the F version in pretty much every respect. Image quality is amazing, focusing is super fast and it has the added bonus of focus shifting, which allows in camera setup of multiple images with automatic micro changes in focus allowing for the series of images to be combined in software later, giving much better depth of field for macro subjects. The lens also performs really well as a short telephoto for portraits or landscape shots. I used my Laowa 100mm 2x lifesize macro as much as I did my F version of this lens as autofocus was of limited use on that lens and the Laowa was optically as good. However I will now sell the Laowa as the Z version has very usable autofocus and the image quality is noticeably better.
